We took advantage of yesterday's sunny weather and completed two Roof tear offs. Replaced rotten plywood on both jobs and installed new skylights on both jobs. This is a Malarkey Vista Algae Resistant Laminate Shingle in midnight black. We installed the Ultimate lifetime pipe flashings they are guaranteed to last the lifetime of the roof. We also replaced some rotten fascia boards before installing the new Seamless K-5" aluminum gutters. And last but not least, we decided to Re- kerf the counter flashing on the chimney. Too much work
Without algae protection, shingles can manifest black streaks in as little as 3 years.
To combat the problem of black streaks, we use 3M™ Copper Granules. These granules, which blend inconspicuously into the shingle’s color, are uniformly distributed on the shingle’s surface, and release copper ions which inhibit algae growth, preventing it from getting started in the first place.
